Being a teacher can be a very rewarding career. As someone who values education, it can seem less like a job but more like a hobby when you teach. There are several levels of teaching and different areas you can teach in. You can teach at a public school, as a private tutor, as a college professor, or in other situations.

First, determine what age group you want to teach and what type of place you want to work such as a public school, college, etc. You will also have to decide what subject you want to teach. If you’re looking to be an elementary school teacher, you don’t have to be as specialized, but if you want to be a high school teacher, you will want to focus your attention in a particular area.

Because there are so many different types of teachers, it is hard to say exactly how long you will spend in school. You should research schooling based on the type of teaching you want to do. You will also have to check what your state requires as far as licenses.

For most, in order to become a teacher, you will have to complete a bachelor’s degree in your area of interest as well as a teaching preparation program. For some people, they go on to earn their master’s degree. This will help you teach upper-level education. Before you graduate, you will usually need to complete a student teaching program and spend time observing a teacher while they teach. If you really want to know what your requirements are, though, you should research specifically about what you want to do.
