Nurse, author, and theorist Virginia Henderson defined nursing in her 1966 work The Nature of Nursing by saying: “The unique function of the nurse is to assist the individual…in the performance of those activities contributing to health or its recovery…that he would perform unaided if he had the necessary strength…” Nurses are a very important part of the medical industry.

The nursing field is vast with many specialties. Different fields of medicine from dermatology, to radiology, to urology have nurses trained for them. Here are just a few:

Advanced Practice Nursing: An advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) has advanced and expanded skills and knowledge. They are generalist, specialist nurses.

Geriatric Nursing: These nurses specialize in the care and assistance of the elderly. They help to keep healthy those who may be too old to keep themselves healthy.

Obstetrical Nursing or Prenatal Nursing: Nurses in this field specialize in caring for those who are trying to have a baby, are having a baby, or have just had a baby. They care for women experiencing complications in their pregnancy and assist in delivery.

Surgical Nursing: Surgical nurses prepare people for surgery and then assist during the surgery. They watch the patient for signs of complication and, later, help in post-surgery recovery.

Healthcare careers in nursing are in demand, and since the medical industry is largely recession-resistant, nursing careers are very popular right now.

Nurse Henderson said that nurses “assist the individual” to get well. Given all they do, this seems like such a simple definition for such an important and vital part of the healthcare industry.

Learning a different language is not easy, and neither is teaching it. Knowing a different language doesn’t mean that you can effectively teach it. If you’re considering becoming a Spanish teacher, here are some tips to help you better teach your students.

When you study to become a Spanish teacher, you have to master the language yourself. You should be able to fluently write and speak Spanish. Different regions of the word have different dialects, so it is important to study how multiple cultures speak. You should also keep this in mind when teaching the language.

Students sign up for your class in order to learn the language, so it is important that you focus most of your attention on teaching them how to speak and write Spanish, rather than the history of Spanish speaking countries. Don’t avoid history completely, but you should not put so much emphasis on it that your students never learn the language.

When you move on to a new lesson, try to incorporate previous vocabulary words so that your students are constantly reviewing. This will help them to remember words better and be able to use them more often.

Require your students to speak Spanish in your classroom whenever possible. If they have learned the word, they should be speaking it in Spanish. Give them a participation grade due to how often they use Spanish in your classroom. Make sure not to take off points when they speak English if they haven’t studied certain words yet. Speaking Spanish daily will help them to understand the language better and be able to effectively speak it.

Being a teacher can be a very rewarding career. As someone who values education, it can seem less like a job but more like a hobby when you teach. There are several levels of teaching and different areas you can teach in. You can teach at a public school, as a private tutor, as a college professor, or in other situations.

First, determine what age group you want to teach and what type of place you want to work such as a public school, college, etc. You will also have to decide what subject you want to teach. If you’re looking to be an elementary school teacher, you don’t have to be as specialized, but if you want to be a high school teacher, you will want to focus your attention in a particular area.

Because there are so many different types of teachers, it is hard to say exactly how long you will spend in school. You should research schooling based on the type of teaching you want to do. You will also have to check what your state requires as far as licenses.

For most, in order to become a teacher, you will have to complete a bachelor’s degree in your area of interest as well as a teaching preparation program. For some people, they go on to earn their master’s degree. This will help you teach upper-level education. Before you graduate, you will usually need to complete a student teaching program and spend time observing a teacher while they teach. If you really want to know what your requirements are, though, you should research specifically about what you want to do.

It can be hard to keep a child focused all day. Sure, they get recess, but what do you do when your students are failing to pay attention in between play sessions? A great way to keep your children focused is to play learning games with them. Sometimes they don’t even realize they are learning, but simply playing a game.

One way to keep your students interested in math is to play a game called “Around the World”. This game is a competitive race to get the answer first. In this game, one student starts out by competing against another. Ask them a math problem such as addition or multiplication, based on their level. Whoever gets the correct answer first then moves on to compete with the next student. Continue this until each child has had a chance to answer a problem. Whoever gets the last question right is the winner. Try to mix up the order every time your students play this game.

Another popular game in elementary classrooms is a spelling game called “Sparkle”. Arrange your students in a circle and determine who will start. Say a word out loud for them to spell. The first student must say the first letter; the next student says the second letter, and so on. If they say the wrong letter on their turn, they are out and must sit down. After the last letter is said, the next student in line says, “Sparkle” in order to end the word. At that point, the student that follows is out of the game and must sit down. Continue until there is one person left standing—the winner.

Coming back to school after a long summer break is exciting. It’s probably only exciting for the kids, though. For teachers, it can be stressful and hectic. For their first day, you may want to plan some fun activities for the children in order to get them more comfortable with the classroom and the other students. Here are some simple ideas.

Have your children play icebreaker activities in order to get to know each other. In elementary school, children tend to only associate with those in their class, but this year they may have to make new friends because their old friends aren’t in their class anymore. A great idea is to have them bring in a few things that shows who they are or what they like, and then have them present this to the class. Try to do this on the second or third day so they have time to prepare.

Prepare different activities in each area of the room so they can familiarize themselves with the classroom. For example, if you have a reading corner, read them a book, or if you have an art corner, allow them to draw or paint.

Play any types of games. This will help them relax. They are probably excited, but nervous at the same time. Make sure to get everyone involved. To get them moving, you may want to try a scavenger hunt within the classroom. Try to pair them up so no one feels left out. You may want to consider playing other games with the students to help them feel more comfortable.

People want to obtain an advanced degree for a lot of different reasons. It may be for career advancement or simply to gain knowledge in a particular field. With advancements in technology, it is now possible to gain a master’s degree through an online program.

So how do you go about getting an online master’s degree? It’s not as difficult as you would think. Here are a few tips and ideas to help you get started.

Decide on your major or program of study. You will find that not all schools that have online programs offer the area you wish to study.

Research online schools to find a program that does offer the major you want to obtain. For instance, check out the programs for a master degree at earnmydegree.com. You should research the cost as well as the time frame necessary to complete your degree.

Find out the credentials of the schools you’re considering. Research their academic accreditation. You may find that some schools are not accredited within the United States. It is important that your degree come from a program that’s recognized and accredited.

Once you have narrowed your school search, examine these schools to see if their programs will fit into your schedule. Most people who want to get a degree online have jobs or other responsibilities that may impact when they can complete their work.

Investigate the program’s prerequisites and required tests. You will probably need to have at least a bachelor’s degree, but other required coursework may be necessary. In addition, you may need to take tests such as the GMAT.

There are many levels of education and different levels of teaching degrees. If you’re a teacher thinking about going back to school, it may be a good decision, but you should first consider why you want to go back to school.

Ask yourself why you want to go back to school. Is it going to help promote you or get you a better job? Are you doing it to learn better teaching techniques? Is it simply to expand your education? If you can find any reason for wanting to do it, then you should definitely consider it.

After you have determined your reasoning for going back to school, decide if it is going to actually benefit you. Will it get in the way of your family or your job? Will the money you put into it pay off? There are so many questions you can ask yourself. As a teacher, you value education and probably think that you can’t sacrifice anything more precious than your education. You need to consider whether or not it will impact you financially, emotionally, and in every other way before you make a definite decision. There are so many ways it can impact you from the work to the cost.

Consider whether or not it is the right time in your life. Education is important and shouldn’t be procrastinated, but sometimes it’s better to wait. If you have young children at home that need their parents, perhaps you’ll wait a few years for them to be able to handle you being gone. If you’ve just begun your career, perhaps you want to develop that before you go back to school.
