How to Effectively Teach Spanish

Learning a different language is not easy, and neither is teaching it. Knowing a different language doesn’t mean that you can effectively teach it. If you’re considering becoming a Spanish teacher, here are some tips to help you better teach your students.

When you study to become a Spanish teacher, you have to master the language yourself. You should be able to fluently write and speak Spanish. Different regions of the word have different dialects, so it is important to study how multiple cultures speak. You should also keep this in mind when teaching the language.

Students sign up for your class in order to learn the language, so it is important that you focus most of your attention on teaching them how to speak and write Spanish, rather than the history of Spanish speaking countries. Don’t avoid history completely, but you should not put so much emphasis on it that your students never learn the language.

When you move on to a new lesson, try to incorporate previous vocabulary words so that your students are constantly reviewing. This will help them to remember words better and be able to use them more often.

Require your students to speak Spanish in your classroom whenever possible. If they have learned the word, they should be speaking it in Spanish. Give them a participation grade due to how often they use Spanish in your classroom. Make sure not to take off points when they speak English if they haven’t studied certain words yet. Speaking Spanish daily will help them to understand the language better and be able to effectively speak it.

Being a teacher can be a very rewarding career. As someone who values education, it can seem less like a job but more like a hobby when you teach. There are several levels of teaching and different areas you can teach in. You can teach at a public school, as a private tutor, as a college professor, or in other situations.

First, determine what age group you want to teach and what type of place you want to work such as a public school, college, etc. You will also have to decide what subject you want to teach. If you’re looking to be an elementary school teacher, you don’t have to be as specialized, but if you want to be a high school teacher, you will want to focus your attention in a particular area.

Because there are so many different types of teachers, it is hard to say exactly how long you will spend in school. You should research schooling based on the type of teaching you want to do. You will also have to check what your state requires as far as licenses.

For most, in order to become a teacher, you will have to complete a bachelor’s degree in your area of interest as well as a teaching preparation program. For some people, they go on to earn their master’s degree. This will help you teach upper-level education. Before you graduate, you will usually need to complete a student teaching program and spend time observing a teacher while they teach. If you really want to know what your requirements are, though, you should research specifically about what you want to do.

Creative Elementary Classroom Games

It can be hard to keep a child focused all day. Sure, they get recess, but what do you do when your students are failing to pay attention in between play sessions? A great way to keep your children focused is to play learning games with them. Sometimes they don’t even realize they are learning, but simply playing a game.

One way to keep your students interested in math is to play a game called “Around the World”. This game is a competitive race to get the answer first. In this game, one student starts out by competing against another. Ask them a math problem such as addition or multiplication, based on their level. Whoever gets the correct answer first then moves on to compete with the next student. Continue this until each child has had a chance to answer a problem. Whoever gets the last question right is the winner. Try to mix up the order every time your students play this game.

Another popular game in elementary classrooms is a spelling game called “Sparkle”. Arrange your students in a circle and determine who will start. Say a word out loud for them to spell. The first student must say the first letter; the next student says the second letter, and so on. If they say the wrong letter on their turn, they are out and must sit down. After the last letter is said, the next student in line says, “Sparkle” in order to end the word. At that point, the student that follows is out of the game and must sit down. Continue until there is one person left standing—the winner.

Coming back to school after a long summer break is exciting. It’s probably only exciting for the kids, though. For teachers, it can be stressful and hectic. For their first day, you may want to plan some fun activities for the children in order to get them more comfortable with the classroom and the other students. Here are some simple ideas.

Have your children play icebreaker activities in order to get to know each other. In elementary school, children tend to only associate with those in their class, but this year they may have to make new friends because their old friends aren’t in their class anymore. A great idea is to have them bring in a few things that shows who they are or what they like, and then have them present this to the class. Try to do this on the second or third day so they have time to prepare.

Prepare different activities in each area of the room so they can familiarize themselves with the classroom. For example, if you have a reading corner, read them a book, or if you have an art corner, allow them to draw or paint.

Play any types of games. This will help them relax. They are probably excited, but nervous at the same time. Make sure to get everyone involved. To get them moving, you may want to try a scavenger hunt within the classroom. Try to pair them up so no one feels left out. You may want to consider playing other games with the students to help them feel more comfortable.
